Job Description

County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is a great place to work. We have a talented workforce of 7,000 colleagues, making us a major employer in the North East region. You would be joining the largest provider of integrated acute and community services across the North East.

County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest integrated care providers in England, serving a population of around 600,000 people. We are a high performing organisation with a track record of success.

We are seeking to employ a dedicated and enthusiastic Medical Laboratory Assistant to work in our busy Microbiology Department. You will need to possess a wide range of skills: demonstrating computer and keyboard skills, good numeracy and literacy, and a high standard of verbal & written English. The role includes a wide range of laboratory based tasks including sample receipt & registration, clerical duties, stock & waste management and the use of some laboratory equipment under the supervision of Biomedical Scientists. Previous laboratory experience and NHS experience is preferred but not essential.

The post holder will be based at the University Hospital of North Durham but may be required to travel to other sites which include Darlington Memorial Hospital. Core hours of work are 7.5 hrs per day between 8am to 8pm weekdays and 8am to 4pm weekends & bank holidays, with staff participating in a shift rota within these hours. You would be expected to have a flexible approach to your hours to cover essential service provision, leave and sickness when required.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship
Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. The UK Visas and Immigration department requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.
