Job Description

Role: Radiographer (MRI/CT)

Function: Provide a service across all sites and modalities

Department:

South East Region

Reports to: Area Lead Radiographer

Responsible for: Radiographers and Radiographic Assistants

Key Contacts:

Patients, Visitors, Host sites, Senior Management Team, External Contracted Third Parties, Consultants.

Location:

All MIP locations

Medical Imaging Partnership (MIP) is an Independent Sector Radiology Company providing managed radiology services and franchise-based professional services direct to radiologists.

The Senior Radiographer will work on the static and mobile MRI/CT scanners at any location MIP provides a service. In addition, support in the delivery of the General Radiography, as required.

Role Purpose:

To consistently maintain the highest standards of both practical work and patient care in the provision of MR/CT and General Radiography service delivery at any MIP location with a high degree of professionalism, ensuring provision of a high quality, responsive, patient focused service.

To maintain a safe service compliant with MHRA guidance and all regulatory & statutory requirements

To be an advocate of high customer care standards, promote and create a positive and proactive approach to customer service.

To participate in and contribute to the corporate development of Medical Imaging Partnership as an individual and as a representative of the company

Core Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

CLINICAL (MRI/CT)

Maintain the highest standards of both practical work and patient care at all times.

Maintain the highest professional standards as set out by the Health Care Professions Council

Have a full understanding of MR safety issues and the hazards and safety implications of working on 1.5T and 3T scanners.

Detailed understanding of CT protocols with good depth of knowledge.

Experience of emergency anaphylactic situations.

Undertake a wide variety of MRI and CT examinations on different MRI and CT systems.

Supervise more junior radiographers and radiographic assistants when required.

Be flexible in working practice to ensure that the scanning service is staffed at all locations and participate in the required shifts.

Ensure MRI/CT referrals are justified and advise protocols if required. Be aware of local PGDs of when contrast administration is justified.

Adapt protocols and procedures for best MRI practice in conjunction with local radiologist and clinician requests.

Safety checks are completed prior to every examination

Ensure consistently high-quality images are produced

Administer contrast media in line with MIP guidance, SOPs & protocols

Assess images for quality and clinical significance and escalate urgent findings as necessary

Ensure all examinations are completed, post-processed and allocated for reporting at the end of each day

Take an active role in clinical audit projects as required

Be responsible for own clinical areas with regards to linen change, cleanliness and infection control

Maintain patient privacy and dignity at all times

To act professionally within the standard and framework provided by the HCPC and College of Radiographers Code of Professional Conduct.

To maintain active registration with the HCPC

To be aware of your responsibilities in relation to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, to have knowledge of supporting policies and to undertake the appropriate level of training for your role

Ensure that MRI safety guidelines are followed in all clinical practice

Be responsible for the MRI safety of patients and other staff

Report any malfunctions of equipment to the Operations Director

Carry out regular Quality Assurance Tests on equipment

Support the general x-ray service provision within the region

CLINICAL (General X-ray)

Maintain the highest professional standards as set out by the Health Professions Council

Undertake a variety of radiographic examinations for patients including (subject to location) general x-ray, theatre, mobiles

Participate in clinical radiography shifts including the on-call service

Be flexible in adapting departmental protocols and procedures for radiographic practice

Ensure patient identification checks are completed prior to the radiographic examination

Explain radiographic procedures and reassure patients

Ensure a consistently high level of quality diagnostic images are produced at all times

Assess diagnostic images for quality and clinical significance

Ensure all patient examinations are completed and post-processed
