Job Description
Requirements and Responsibilities:
- Applied knowledge across mechanical engineering, materials science and manufacturing engineering.
- Demonstrated experience of using analytical skills to derive potential solutions to engineering problems and using engineering judgement to appraise these options before recommending the most suitable option.
- Experience of being the engineering ‘authority’ – Willingness and ability to lead the delivery of complex and multidiscipline-requiring projects.
- Thorough understanding of engineering and management processes – knowledge/experience of Systems Engineering (INCOSE) practices is advantageous
- Experience in both authoring, checking and issuing technical documentation such as component drawings, general assemblies, design and analysis reports, installation and commissioning procedures, test plans, engineering and manufacturing management plans.
- Working to BS ISO 8888 – Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
- Working in and contributing to, an ISO 9001 environment.
- Experience using CAD software – Siemens NX preferred.
- Experience using Finite Element Analysis (at component and assembly levels) – NASTRAN preferred; ability to interpret and make use of analytical results to promote engineering decision making.
- Thorough understanding of diverse manufacturing processes (metals, ceramics, composites and polymers).
- Knowledge of NASA, JAXA, ECSS Product Assurance and Safety practices is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of writing technical requirement specifications – including the planning and management of verification and compliance.
- Experience is performing Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) and Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety (RAMS) Analysis.
- Excellent, demonstrated Project Management skills including preparing and maintaining with MS Project schedules, managing risk, preparing and monitoring project budgets.
- Ability to develop and agree scopes of work, managing internal and external supply chains.
- Excellent written skills with an advanced proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills; experience in presenting to a varied audience, delivering information in an appropriate tone and format.
- Demonstrated experience of reporting to clients, management (immediate and Board level) Experienced in full project support.
- Capable of managing a small team of graduate design engineers, is a champion of precision and quality, providing feedback to peers for learning. Experience of line management an advantage.
- Sourcing and contributing to relevant industry events, happy to grow networks and can demonstrate how this has been achieved previously
- committed to ongoing professional development and staying abreast of industry developments and changes in standards; happy to perform research in order to continue providing world-leading engineering support to technologically ground-breaking projects.
Qualifications:
- BEng, MEng., MSc in Engineering; Mechanical or Aerospace preferred (or equivalent experience))
- Appropriate professional accreditation/chartership achieved (IMECHE, INCOSE)
- Must provide examples of self-learning/development.
- Commercial references detailing relationship to be provided. They will be contacted prior to interview.
