Job Description

The successful applicant will join a team of enthusiastic anaesthetists who can offer expertise and training in Critical Care, leadership and sustainability, quality improvement and regional anaesthesia. The department has recently been awarded Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation (ACSA) having been commended by ACSA in many aspects including team communication, simulation training and Specialty Doctor career development.

Many of the consultants either hold or have held trust and external, education and leadership positions, and Airedale is well represented at national and international conferences and events with Consultants and trainees presenting their work. Consequently Airedale anaesthetic department is scored consistently highly on trainee surveys.

At the start of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the department successfully split the Consultant on call rota in line with GPICS staffing requirements for Critical Care. The department now operates a first on and second on system during the de-escalation, with a first on frequency of 1:16 but planned availability as a named person also on a 1:16 basis (1:8 in total). Substantive recruitment is also ongoing to further expand the Consultant body to 20 WTE to support both GPICS standards and a new theatre build later in 2020-2021.

The initial job plan is for 10 PA’s with opportunity for extra PA’s (up to 12 in total). Time is allocated within job plans for any additional responsibilities in addition to SPA time. Professional leave is available for additional responsibilities in addition to study leave.

Airedale NHS Foundation Trust leads in collaboration with community services, telemedicine and digital health and has consistently been named as one of the top 40 trusts in the UK by CHKS. Our Critical Care Unit is rated as Good by the CQC.

This role may be suitable for non-UK or non-EEA job applicants wishing to apply for Home Office Tier 2 sponsorship.
