Job Description

Our Organisation

NHS England and NHS Improvement came together on 1 April 2019 as a new single organisation. The NHS Long Term Plan focuses on delivering integrated care to patients at the local level and we can best support the NHS to deliver this as a single integrated organisation.

At the NHS, we are reminded every day of how important life is. As a flexible working friendly organisation, we want to be sure that you can work in a way that is best for us and for our patients, and for you. Speak to us about how we might be able to accommodate a flexible working arrangement whether that’s job share, part time or another flexible pattern. In addition, although the role advertised may have an ‘home’ office base indicated, we remain committed to supporting flexibility around workplace locations. If it works for the service, we will do our best to make it work for you.

Our new operating model represents a strong shift to regional delivery supported by expert corporate teams. Local health systems are supported by our integrated regional teams who play a major leadership role in the geographies they manage.

We are jointly committed to creating and maintaining a fair and supportive working environment and culture, where contributions are fully recognised and valued by all and staff feel empowered to carry out their duties to the best of their abilities. As employers we are committed to promoting and protecting the physical and mental health and well-being of all our staff. This underpins our values as set out in the NHS Constitution, supports us to be an Employer of Choice and ultimately enables our employees to support the effective care of our patients.

The national Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response (EPRR) team is looking for an enthusiastic and reliable individual EPRR Senior Manager to join the team.

The post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective EPRR service supporting managers and staff across the corporate operations function to deliver the EPRR agenda and so ensure a safe and resilient NHS in England.

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of an efficient, effective and high-quality professional work programme for the EPRR service capable of meeting all statutory, regulatory and NHS requirements ensuring alignment with the activity of the organisation.

The post holder will have exposure to the development of national guidance and policy and work frequently with key stakeholders from the Department of Health and Social Care, Cross Government Departments including Public Health England and the Devolved Administrations, NHS England and NHS Improvement regions and NHS provider organisations.

Additional duties include being part of the national on call rota, for which an enhancement is paid based on frequency of on call, and participating in incident management team (national) and incident coordination centre (national) activities. Some weekend and out of hours flexibility will be required when responding to incidents.

The EPRR Officer will be expected to be flexible in working location with some travel between NHS England and NHS Improvement’s bases in London and Leeds along with travel to regional offices and NHS provider sites when required. The candidate will ideally be located in either Leeds or London, but some flexibility of home base is available. It is essential that the candidate has good communication skills and is able to work effectively within a team environment especially under pressure.

Experience of EPRR and knowledge of the National Health Service, projects and programmes and the applications of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 within it are required for this post. Applicants should preferably hold or be working towards holding a qualification in EPRR or a related subject and will be required to undergo national security vetting.

Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed.

The level of security needed is security check. This requires you to have been resident in the UK for the past 5 years.
