Job Description

Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust is a friendly, supportive, busy but welcoming acute and community Trust that is ambitious about developing our services and your career.

Our compassionate, caring and friendly colleagues make up our Royal Surrey family and are at the heart of what we do. We all have a passion for learning, continuous improvement and excelling together through innovation, research and development. There are over 4,500 members of our Royal Surrey family.

We are clinically led and provide joined up care by bridging the gap between hospital and community services alongside regional specialist cancer care. Our main acute hospital site is in Guildford with community hospital sites at Milford, Haslemere and Cranleigh. We provide adult community health services in the community and homes across Guildford and Waverley.

We have received an overall ‘Good’ rating from the CQC, with our Maternity services deemed ‘Outstanding’. We also received a rating of ‘Outstanding’ for medical care and end of life care. We are investing in our colleagues through our new health and wellbeing programme and a commitment to supporting professional development as well as investing more than £45 million in our physical environment and new equipment in the next few years.

There has never been a better time to join us.

Senior Scientist /Laboratory Manager

Band 8b – Full Time (37.5 hours) – Permanent

We have an opportunity for an experienced, energetic, enthusiastic individual to join the Molecular Diagnostics Department at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust for a full- or part-time position; details of hours can be discussed.

The Department is part of Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services. It is an ISO accredited service providing diagnostic services for four local health Trusts.

Molecular Diagnostics is a specialist service providing services for BSPS departments, associated Trust clinicians and external laboratories allowing. Whilst the department provides routine genetic analyses for specific diagnosis of patients, the ongoing focus is the provision of specialist cancer testing which enables the delivery of personalised oncology treatments.

Over the recent months the department has played a major role in the response to the Covid crisis; providing a testing facility to service the entire pathology network; the laboratory continues to assist in the provision of this service and will respond to any increase in demand as necessary.

We are looking for someone who has a record of accomplishment in the implementation of new technologies for the delivery of clinical services, someone who understands the requirements of developing new clinical services, has a keen eye for detail, is flexible and works well in a team environment. The post requires someone able to promote and maintain the highest possible standards of scientific work appropriate for a comprehensive, efficient and cost effective molecular diagnostics service.
