About this job:
We are currently seeking a scientist to become a key figure in ensuring the safety to operators and consumers following the use of Syngenta’s crop protection products. Working as part of a team the role requires expertise in the understanding, design, delivery and interpretation of a wide range of residue chemistry data (e.g. analytical methods, crop residue trials and processing and operator exposure studies) to provide inputs to operator and consumer risk assessment positions. The role also requires the evaluation of new guidelines and approaches to data generation to maintain Syngenta’s competitive advantage.
Successful team members have come from a variety of backgrounds – Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Biological Sciences, Agronomy.
This role will include:
- Providing expertise in the design and conduct of a range of residue studies e.g. magnitude of residue, method validation, storage stability, crop rotation, processing, livestock feeding, operator exposure and dislodgeable residue
- Working with external contract research organisation partners to deliver complex programmes of work
- Identifying, defining and solving key scientific problems, particularly on field trial data, analytical data, chromatography
- Ensuring the delivery and content of the field and analytical phases of GLP residue studies to meet agreed timelines and quality
- An understanding of current and developing EU regulatory testing guidelines and issues, devising and advocating techno-regulatory strategies to gain and defend product registrations
- Participating in science projects and communicating the outcomes within Syngenta and at external venues
This role would be expected to develop with time to representation of the function in techno-regulatory project teams (either from the consumer safety or operator safety perspective), developing further skills in risk assessment, project management and the evaluation and application of new approaches to dietary or operator risk assessment. Leading the provision of expertise on project teams, and working with colleagues from Environmental Safety, Toxicology, Metabolism, Regulatory Affairs and Project Management, will be key components of the role.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, we believe you will need:
- To be qualified to a minimum of degree level in chemistry, biochemistry, food science, analytical science, environmental chemistry or agronomy with at least 3 years post academic industry experience
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- An ability to work in multiple projects simultaneously and prioritise work effectively
- Experience of working to tight timelines
- To be capable of making good technical judgments in a timely manner
- An ability to solve difficult and complex technical problems utilising a proactive approach
- Experience of working within multi-disciplinary project teams and demonstrated project management skills
Highly numerate and the candidate would have demonstrated skills in data analysis
