Job Description
We are looking for two full time Lung Cancer Pathway Navigators to join the Respiratory/Lung Cancer multidisciplinary team; one based in Worthing, the other in Chichester. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an expanding and innovative team and make a difference to people affected by cancer. If you have the skills required and the motivation to make an impact, we want to hear from you. We strongly recommended an informal conversation before application to understand the wider context of work.
The posts are 12 month fixed term and are integral to ensuring a co-ordinated, smooth and efficient service for patients by navigating and signposting them through their complex timed lung cancer pathway.
The Lung Cancer Pathway Navigator(s) will be involved from the onset of the patients care pathway at the point of referral for suspicion of cancer. They will support the lung cancer service to implement and achieve the National Lung Cancer Optimal Pathway (NOLCP) which aims to ensure patients receive a definitive diagnosis by day 28 of their pathway.
The post holders main role is to improve patient experience by providing a friendly, non-clinical contact point for patients and their families. They will ensure all patients move through the pathway without delay, preventing patient cancellations and DNAs (Did Not Attends) which will ultimately lead to a quicker diagnosis and treatment for lung cancer. With frequent contact with patients and their families, it is essential that the post holders are emotionally resilient with a caring and sensitive attitude. They will also have excellent communication skills to liaise with a wide range of health professionals to ensure tests and appointments are coordinated and scheduled in a timely manner and patients are kept informed at all times.
The ideal candidate will have an understanding of cancer targets and patient pathways, in particular lung cancer pathway. It is desirable that they have previous NHS experience in a patient facing role, a good level of education, experience of using different IT systems and are competent in Microsoft Office packages. We are looking for enthusiastic and conscientious team players with excellent time-management and organisational skills who can work autonomously and well under pressure.
Please can you specify on your application which hospital site you would prefer to be based at but please be aware we are one trust and you will be expected to provide cross cover.
