Job Description

Our client has been established for more than three decades and specialise in the manufacture of polythene products for supply to a diverse range of clients and industry sectors across the UK including food processing, injection moulding, pharmaceutical and FMCG.

As a result of continued success they are now seeking to recruit an experienced, self-motivated and well organised electrically biased multi-disciplinary maintenance engineer to complement their successful Hitchin based team.

Reporting to the Operations Director and working on a Monday to Friday – 8am to 4.30pm basis (with occasional out of hours work required and rewarded with time off in lieu), the successful maintenance engineer candidate will undertake a range of both PPM and reactive breakdown repair activities on a range of extrusion, conversion and ancillary equipment within a busy manufacturing environment.

As the sole maintenance engineer, the role offers a wide range of challenges in ensuring production targets are achieved and machinery downtime is minimised, and whilst electrically biased and able to work safely on AC and DC motors, drives, temperature controllers and electrical circuits, you will also be capable and comfortable in undertaking mechanical work including gearbox strip down and rebuild activities and be skilled in general problem solving activities.

In addition to both proactive and reactive maintenance tasks, you will also be responsible for managing your day to day activities and projects in the most efficient manner possible, prioritising and planning as well as overseeing all aspects of spares management and stock control, with excellent communication skills required at all levels to liaise with the production and management teams as well as suppliers and customers as required.

With the opportunity to work on projects and to be instrumental in the continuous improvement activities across both machinery and general factory applications, this is an exceptional opportunity for a suitably experienced and enthusiastic engineer seeking a fresh opportunity within a stable and respected environment to become “master of their own domain” – and whilst previous polythene sector industry experience is advantageous although not essential, you will need to be qualified in a relevant engineering discipline and essentially qualified to at least 17th Edition IEE regs or above.
